[edit source]Hello, can you help me delete this article: https://nov.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhytmund_Freud Its obviously spam. Thank you KardonaBoske (talk) 22:24, 9 oktobre 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, only admins can delete pages, and I don't have admin rights here anymore. I've emptied the page and moved it to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, but that's all I can do. At some point a global sysop will find it there and delete it. If you would like to be an admin yourself, I will of course support you. IJzeren Jan⇒✉ 16:24, 10 oktobre 2023 (UTC)

[edit source]Damage to Novial Wikipedia by this user
[edit source]You have done a lot of harm to the Novial Wikipedia by deleting articles. Good that you are no longer here active. You should never be granted any rights in this Wikipedia in the future. I try to restore now the damage you have done. Stay away from Novial Wikipedia! KardonaBoske (talk) 17:52, 2 oktobre 2023 (UTC)
- Apparently you haven't seen the deleted pages, or at least, I can't think of any other possible explanation for your rant. So let me enlighten you. The pages I deleted were either empty or contained nothing but a navigation template, and quite a few others were spam and/or written in another language. There were hundreds of articles with no other content than "X es urbe in Y". For example, there were no less than 186 articles about towns in the Spanish province of Soria that were literal copies of each other, and as you can see, I have left those that even contained the slightest bit of additional information. In other words, I have been utterly careful and I can assure you that nothing of any value was lost. You may want to read my rationale. Best, IJzeren Jan⇒✉ 18:36, 2 oktobre 2023 (UTC)
I don't agree to your rationale. The deleted articles for example about the cities could have been a starting point for larger articles. It would have been your job to expand them, but not to delete them. Because of your action I can not link the new articles with the interlanguage links in other languages. So the damage is done and it requires a lot of work to restore them. Regarding spam and articles in other languages its of course correct to delete them. Many other Wikipedias have thousands of articles like "X is a village in X-land." as only sentence and it was never contested. But to delete one third of a Wikipedia is really a disaster. There is new activism in Novial and the Wikipedia will recover, but it will take some time. KardonaBoske (talk) 19:45, 2 oktobre 2023 (UTC)
- Well, if you disagreed with my ideas, you could have spoken up but didn't. And no, I absolutly do not consider it my task to turn practically empty pages created in less than a minute by others into serious articles. Simply because my time is precious and I prefer to choose the items I wish to write about myself.
And don't say that "it requires a lot of work to restore them" (as if there were anything worth restoring, but that aside) because that's utter nonsense. It would take me less than an hour to copy a navigation template with 100 municipalities in some Dutch province from another Wikipedia, create pages for all 100 of them, fill them with that template and the text {{PAGENAME}} es urbe in [[Nederlande]] ánd add the corresponding interlanguage links. But is that really what you call "writing an encyclopedia"? Perhaps so, but in that case I respectfully disagree, because in my opinion, oneliners written without even the slightest interest in the subject or love for the language are simply not worth preserving. Of course, there are other Wikipedia projects that are full of such pages (or worse: an article titled "Donald Trump" containing nothing but a picture). The fact that obviously nobody can be bothered to delete them or add at least one decent sentence only shows in what deplorable state these projects are.
But on a positive note, I'm glad that there is some renewed activity here and I see that you are doing a bang-up job here. I wish you good luck. By the way, what do you mean by saying that you "cannot link the new articles with the interlanguage links in other languages"? IJzeren Jan⇒✉ 21:00, 2 oktobre 2023 (UTC) - Ah, and one more thing. You write that these substubs about cities could have been a starting point for larger articles. I can understand that you think that way, but believe me, that's not how it works. On this project, not a single one of them had been expanded with as much as a single word during eight long years. And I can tell you, until two years ago, the Volapük Wikipedia had about 100,000 articles about cities and towns created in 2007 by a bot, and exactly the same thing happened there: after fourteen years, none of them had been significantly improved or even been updated. Thing is, in general people feel much more motivated to start a new article than to improve an existing stub. And especially when it is in a language that practically no one speaks, people would rather copy text from another article and change a keyword than actually use a dictionary, let alone learn the language. Which is a sad thing in itself — but we should be realistic. I vividly remember the initial enthousiasm when these two projects were created. Especially on WP:VO the moderators started setting up a huge infrastructure that would easily fit an encyclopedia of a million articles: quite an ambitious plan for an encyclopedia in a language spoken by only a handful of people. What they apparently didn't realise was that once they would quit for whatever reason, there would be nobody to maintain this huge number of pages. When I took over, both projects had effectively been dead for quite a few years. My purpose was simply to make them look better, and I think anyone would agree that an encyclopedia where more than half of the articles consist of the same short sentence does not look attractive. Don't you think one article of a hundred words is a hundred times more valuable in showcasing a small language than a hundred articles consisting of the same four words?
